Lodging mentioned in the itinerary depends on availability of rooms available at the time of booking. Reservations will only be made after your confirmed booking with us.

At the time of your booking, in the event that listed hotels are fully booked, we will do our best to inform you and book a different hotel in the same class. Gorilla permits can only be secured after receiving the requested deposit. The chimp tracking may take place either in the morning or afternoon, depending on the availability of chimp permits.

You can extend your stay with;

  • Staying on a private island between the rapids as you discovering the Source of the Nile River.

Uganda Flying Safari and Cultural tour

Our driver will meet you at the airport and bring you to your hotel. Depending on the time of arrival, you have the opportunity to visit the beautiful botanical garden or take a boat excursion to Mabamba swamp where the Shoebill Stork is common.

Overnight: Boma Hotel / Karibu GuestHouse.

Meal plan: Dinner

After buffet breakfast, our driver will take you to Entebbe Airport. From there you fly straight to Murchison National Park with the chance of a great overview of the green landscape of Uganda with its hills and lakes. At the Airstrip another driver of our team is waiting for you to bring you to the hotel and start the first game drive in the national park. Transfer to the panoramic view of the Nile river from the pool.

Overnight: Pakuba safari lodge / Paraa safari lodge.

Depart for early (6.30AM) for game drive. enjoy a 3 hour game safari, keep an eye out for the elephants, leopards, lions, warthogs and giraffes as well as large herds of animals such as oribi, Hartebeets, Kobs and buffalo, but please note – some wild animals like leopards, lions can be elusive! Look out for Abyssinian ground hornbill, Abyssinian Roller, Pied Kingfishers, vultures, goshawk, hawks  and many more.

At 2:00PM, we depart for a 3 hour boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to the bottom of Murchison falls. Along the way, you’ll be passing large numbers of giant Nile crocodiles, schools of hippos, vast range of birds – birds feeding on open water; birds that hunt the river margins; like stilts, kingfishers, storks, kingfishers; birds feeding off rising from water insects; like swallows, bee-eaters and pranticoles. Enjoy this breathtaking scenery.  There is an optional hike to view top-of-falls, It’s about a one hour walk to the top of the waterfall. please note it can be a bit straining and tough. Some people say it is the most powerful waterfall in Africa, at the point where the Nile plunges 40 meters deep.

Upon return, your driver/guide will pick you and take you back to lodge for overnight stay.

Early you will start boat safari on river Nile to the Nile Delta at Lake Albert. Here you have the great opportunity to observe the diversity of birdlife as well as the rare prehistoric Shoebill Stork. At noon you will start your next flight to Kasese. From Kasese Airport, our driver will bring you to your lodge in Kabale forest National Park.

Today we transfer to Kibale forest gate at Kanyanchu.  Today is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to move with rangers to encounter chimpanzees up-close. Kibale National park is an extension of the great rainforests of Central Africa.

In Kibale, here you will find one of the largest populations of chimpanzees in Africa – about 1450 individuals. This park has other primates; there are chances of seeing  the black-and-white colobus, red-tailed monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, blue monkeys, and olive baboons as well as the red colobus monkey and plentiful of forest bird life. Remember to carry water, rain gear, and walking/hiking boots plus back pack. It will be perfect opportunity to listen to the chimps as they grumble and feed. Only one community is allowed to be visited by tourists.  

Chimpanzees live in communities. Each community has a complicated social structure. The big adult males dominate the group and defend the community territory against other male intruders; the females usually wander in small family groups. Rangers locate the chimps by listening for their pant-hooting calls, following their eating trails. A chance to observe them as they feed in fruiting trees,  and socialize with each other. On a lucky day people have witnessed chimpanzees hunting.

4:00 pm, we head out to visit Bigodi Community wetland walk. Experience like a local. At the edge of Kibale forest is Bigodi Wetland in the Community. This authentic eco tourism initiative of how the local community protect and live harmoniously with a habitat of over 8 primate species including Guereza colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey, red tailed monkeys. look out for  bird species including Greatblue Turaco, bee-eaters and whydah .  

Nothing beats learning a culture more than immersing itself in it. Head out to a Banana plantation where there is local brewing family demonstration using Bananas. Uganda is the original Banana Republic in a literal sense and produces more Bananas  varieties than any other country except Brazil, not bad for a country the size of the state of Oregon.  Also you can sample the local beer made from Bananas, taste some gin and participate in local coffee brewing. After return to the lodge.

Optional activities:

Chimpanzee ‘habituation’ experience.
You can do chimpanzee habituation tracking instead of the usual chimpanzee tracking at an additional fee of only $50 US per person,. Chimpanzees live in communities. Each community has a complicated social structure. The big adult males dominate the group and defend the community territory against other male intruders; the females usually wander in small family groups. Rangers locate the chimps by listening for their pant-hooting calls, following their eating trails. A chance to observe them as they feed in fruiting trees,  and socialize with each other. on a lucky day people have witnessed chimpanzees hunting. You will have very close encounter with these chimps. Please note it’s important to book this in well ahead of time because only 6 persons per day are permitted to experience this. In the event that one decides on going for habituation, it is possible to go on swamp sanctuary walk the next morning before heading to Queen Elizabeth National park.

Today after breakfast we transfer to queen Elizabeth national park for a boat cruise. At 4 pm we take an unforgettable 2 hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway that connects Lake Edward and Lake George. Here you will be able to observe a plenty of hippos nearby.

This is probably the most amazing combination of spectacular water birds ( residents and migrants) teaming with wildlife on Kazinga channel. Along the channel, local people are seen loading their canoes, fetching water as  buffalos wallowing , Elephants shower, Hippos roam around, crocodiles basking on the same banks . unbelievable life at the fishing village. Tones of storks, spoonbills, cormorants, kingfishers, lapwigs, pelicans. You can expect to see buffalo, crocodile, bathing elephant, and a range of beautiful birds. This will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your tour. After transfer back to the lodge.

Today transfer to Bwindi. Bwindi impenetrable forest National Park is about 330sq kms, with spectacular scenery, impressive forest views. The whole geographical scenery is basically hilly and mountainous. At an elevation between 1160 to 2607m (3806 to 8553ft) rains can shower anytime in Bwindi forest, it is recommended that visitors pack rain wear, waterproof clothing and appropriate hiking shoes to wear on during gorilla tracking or forest walks. Daytime temperatures range from 23C/73F at times dropping to as low as 11C/52F

There are 20 gorilla families which have been habituated for gorilla viewing, all of which can be accessed from specific locations/sectors of the forest. Eight people are permitted to view a single family per day. To trek gorillas you need a gorilla permit/license. Gorilla licenses are booked by location not by the name of a gorilla family. There are 4 starting gates namely; in North at BUHOMA, in the East at RUHIJA and in the South at RUSHAGA & South West at NKURINGO.  

Please note the choice of lodging will be determined by location of Gorilla family available at time of booking!

Today is the big day… Today our guide will pick you up from your lodge, at 7.30am transfer to park gate (5-10 minutes) Pre-tracking orientation starts at 8:00AM.

”Did you know that Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is the only habitat where mountain gorillas and chimpanzees live together”. Learn a lot about the fascinating gentle giants as you move along slopes, valleys, winding vineyards and bamboo plants into the dense jungle.

The tracking can last from as little as 45 minutes to as much as 10 hours. The activity depends on location of gorillas the previous day. Visitors therefore are supposed to move along with packed/picnic lunch and water, and should be equipped with strong water-proof clothing and must be averagely healthy.  

Coming face-to-face with a mountain gorilla is a truly humbling and emotional experience. This is a fantastic and privileged opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s very own ‘Gorillas in the Mist’.

Evening Optional activity; Village walk

Today after gorilla trekking you have the option to stay at your lodge and relax or experience something local on a village walk.

You will observe women making handicrafts from local materials and those creating the baskets , a chance to buy some. See how hard women are working in the fields tending to their crops. just a hoe and hard work all day in the fields.

It’s possible to visit to the Batwa Pygmy community,  the original people of the forest – those who lost their homes when Bwindi forest was legally made  Impenetrable Forest National Park. This tour ends with traditional dance and gorilla dance.

Depending on the Gorilla family previously available and booked by our tour consultant ( Buhoma or Ruhija or Rushaga) it’s possible to continue this village tour  with seeing how tea is picked and how just the newest leaves area picked by the skilled pickers. Chances of seeing local women washing clothes in the traditional way by hand –  there is no whirlpool washing machine here – just hands

Head out to a Banana plantation where there is local brewing demonstration using Bananas. Uganda is the original Banana Republic in a literal sense and produces more Bananas  varieties than any other country except Brazil, not bad for a country the size of the state of Oregon.  Also you can sample the local beer made from Bananas. Traditional Healer – no, he is not a witch doctor but someone who knows what to use from the forest for ailments – you will be amazed at this informative demonstration.

Our  guide will take care of your transfer  to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip. Today you will fly back to Entebbe International Airport to connect to your next destination.

To go on a gorilla trek, you need a gorilla permit/license which we can arrange for you.  We can only purchase your Gorilla permit after you have made a down-payment to us. Gorilla permits are competitive on a daily basis, advance booking is always preferred.

Please note the gorilla tracking in this itinerary can be done in Bwindi and or Mgahinga national parks. Gorilla tracking is dependent on the permits availability at the time of your booking. Gorilla permits in all parks are on a very high demand and we advise that you book them as early as possible.

  • Gorilla trekking can be strenuous activity and Minimum gorilla tracking age is 15 years.
  • What to bring: Hiking shoes/walking shoes, long socks to tuck-in long pants , rain wear, warm clothing, evenings can be cold/chilly, gloves preferably gardening type are very helpful and  insect repellant.
  • Anyone with signs of communicable diseases will NOT be allowed to track.
  • While possession of a gorilla permit is a guarantee of trekking and
  • Maximum time allowed with the gorillas will NOT exceed ONE hour, you are kindly requested to practice different modes of using your camera in different light situations. Gorillas can sometimes be moving, Forest vegetation can at times obstruct visibility, and hence taking photos of these creatures can be very challenging!

Transport:
Our standard offering is a 4WD with pop-up roof for easy safari viewing.  All passengers will have a dedicated window seat. Your driver/guide will be at your disposal for questions.

Difficulty:
Gorilla trekking takes place at altitudes 1160 to 2607m (3806 to 8553ft) above sea level. This means that moderate/average physical fitness is required. The slowest member will determine the groups’ speed. The pace will be moderate, with plenty stops to rest, ask questions, re-hydrate and enjoy the forest and views.
