MOUNTAIN GORILLA TRACKING
Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park
Located in the North West of Rwanda, just a short 2-hour drive from Rwanda’s capital Kigali is the Volcanoes National Park (Parc National de Volcans or PNV as it’s known by the locals). The park lies along the Virunga Mountains – the ancient volcanoes that are shared by Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is after these dormant volcanoes that the park is named after.
With its rich and massive ecosystems of bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath, the park has become a central location for exploring some exceptional Rwandan experiences- top on the list is gorilla trekking but the park also offers thrilling hikes (pay homage to the legendary scientist and gorilla conservationist Dian Fossey with a hike to her tomb) plus a captivating visit to the golden monkeys.
Other activities include visiting the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, a cultural tour to the vibrant markets of Musanze or exploring the Musanze Caves – a newer attraction in the area.
