Day 1: Depart for Murchison Falls Safari – Uganda’s largest National park!

Pick you up from your Hotel or another residence in Kampala/ Entebbe at 7.00 am in a customized pop-top safari vehicle as you start your Murchison Falls Big5 Safari. Along the way to Murchison falls national park, is the Ziwa rhino sanctuary located at Nakitoma village. This Rhino sanctuary is home to over 30 southern white rhinos. You can opt to go on-foot rhino walking safari – optional at extra cost.

Tracking and viewing the rhinos usually involves a short drive followed by 1hour of walking and viewing with a ranger. Closed shoes, long trousers and insect repellent are strongly recommended. You’ll be guided on foot by a ranger to visit Uganda’s most endangered creature – the Southern White Rhino. This is the only place in Uganda where they still survive and breed with the hopes of one day being reintroduced back into one of the savannah parks.

Continue your journey arriving at the Top-of-the Falls. You will take a walk to view the mighty Murchison Falls, the point where River Nile is squeezed through such a tiny space (7m gap) plunging 42m deep making one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world.
What a stunning sight, foaming, crashing white water rushing through narrow channels of stone and plunging down into a curving stretch of river below, silvery in the mid-day light. The payoff is a killer view back toward the falls, and down the Nile in another direction as your eye can see. A vivid rainbow arced right across the plunging spray of the falls. You will be thrilled by this magical place and feel like you need another day here. You will continue to check in at your lodge.  Enjoy dinner and drinks.

Driving time: 6 hours.

On-foot rhino walking time: 1 hour.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 2:   Murchison Falls wildlife game viewing safari and Boat Cruise

Depart for an early (6.30 am) game drive. Enjoy a 3hour game safari, keep an eye out for the elephants, leopards, lions, warthogs, and giraffes as well as large herds of animals such as oribi, Hartebeets, Kobs and buffalo, but please note – some wild animals like leopards, lions can be elusive! –   nothing is guaranteed though our guides will maximize the chances of these cat sightings! You’ll then have time to stop for your lunch by the river Nile.

At 2:00 pm, you will either opt to depart for a 3-hour boat cruise along the Victoria Nile to view the bottom of Murchison falls or go for another evening game-viewing drive at 4 pm. On the boat ride, you’ll be passing large numbers of giant Nile crocodiles, schools of hippos, and a vast range of birdlife. Enjoy this breathtaking scenery.  After you will return to the lodge.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3:  Return to Kampala

After early breakfast, you will transfer south of Murchison falls national park on your way to Kampala. You will notice that while the northern section of this park is filled with savanna vegetation, Borassus palms, acacia trees, and riverine woodland, the south is dominated by mainly thickets, forest patches, and woodlands – making it a good habitat for monkeys, baboons, and Chimpanzees. You can opt to walk to see chimpanzees in the wild.

Please note: If you decide to go chimpanzee tracking, you will add extra chimp permit fees ($USD130). Although the forest is home to a big population of chimpanzees, Budongo is also the biggest tropical rainforest, with an abundance of large East African mahogany trees (some more than 80m tall, with a 20m circumference. A Chimp walk takes between 2 to 4 hours. After viewing chimpanzees for an hour, your ranger will take you back to the trailhead. After a transfer by road back to Kampala/Entebbe, arriving early evening – subject to the traffic situation of the day across the City!

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch.
