1 Day Entebbe bird watching Tour Uganda

Tour Overview

1 Day Entebbe bird watching tour Uganda, encounter the shoebill, Uganda's most sought-after endemic bird species that inhabits only marshy areas. Like all birds, shoebills are descendants of dinosaurs, and their massive beaks are shaped like shoes.
For many bird enthusiasts, spotting a shoebill is a lifelong goal. Mabamba Swamp is one of the few remaining sites on Lake Victoria that provides consistent sightings of this remarkable bird. Covering 2,424 hectares, Mabamba Swamp is recognized as an International Ramsar site. It is managed by a local community association dedicated to preserving this unique ecosystem for future generations.
The swamp is characterized by small channels of marsh-filled water and lagoons, making it one of the most reliable places in the world to observe the shoebill (Balaeniceps rex).

The shoebill’s feet and claws resemble those of many dinosaur fossils, including two that are believed to have originated from these birds. Let's experience one of the world’s best shoebill viewing sites, enjoy stable canoe positioning by experienced guides, on our 1 Day Entebbe bird watching tour in Uganda.

Itinerary Details

Day 1
Bird Watching

At 7 AM, meet your private guide at your hotel and transfer by private car to Mabamba Bay on Lake Victoria. The journey takes about 1.5 hours from Kampala City or one hour from Entebbe City, passing through local townships and suburbs.

Once you arrive at the landing site, board traditional wooden boats for a canoe ride in search of the elusive Shoebill, a remarkable bird known for its large bill and striking eyes. Mabamba Bay hosts 9-15 Shoebills, making it a must-visit for birdwatchers.

Enjoy stories about these birds, including their nesting habits, where a female typically allows one weaker chick to perish. Mabamba Bay is the only place in Uganda with a high chance of spotting the Shoebill. The canoe ride lasts about three hours.
