Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest is dominated by the mighty Victoria Nile, which bisects the park via a seven-meter-wide rocky cleft before dropping 43 meters over the Western edge of the Albertine Rift. Most visitors come to Murchison Falls to go on safari. The park provides home for 76 mammal species, including the Big game; lion, leopard, elephant, Rothschild’s giraffe, Cape buffalo, hartebeest… Pakuba area is the park’s best game viewing spot. Early morning and late afternoon are the optimum times for game drives.

Walking at the top-of-Murchison falls

A nature walk as you hike to the top of Murchison Falls is a must-do activity for an average traveler. The hike takes minimum 1.5 hours and offers stunning views of the falls and very impressive surrounding landscapes.

Tip: Get prepared to climb 165 stairs on the 2.5 km trail to the top. Temperatures are humid, you might get tired, but the views are overwhelming. A park ranger will accompany you sharing story of the falls.

This walking trail known as the Baker’s Trail, first takes you to the top of the falls, and then you hike down to Devil’s Cauldron with various pphotography viewing points of the falls. Prepare to get wet by the spray of the falls.
