Discover just how friendly and hospitable Ugandan people are in a Village walk tour. This tour has two gorilla trekking opportunities but must be pre-booked.

Flying from Entebbe airport  to see gorillas saves you long hours of the day and allows you more time to opt to connect with local communities around  Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. including the native pigmy people.

On arrival at airstrip, our driver will pick you up and transfer  one hour to your lodge viewing  Bwindi. You can  rest the entire afternoon, or simply take a walking tour around the village as you prepare  trek to see gorillas the coming day.

Things to know :

Minimum gorilla tracking age is 15 years.

A maximum of 8 people are permitted to visit a family of gorillas at one time/daily, so it’s likely on the real trekking day, you will be joined to other guests to make group of 8. If you’re travelling as a group larger than 8.  You will be split across different but equally amazing families.

Maximum time allowed with the gorilla family will NOT exceed One hour.

It is a requirement to have a gorilla permit before you are allowed on a Gorilla trek.

Is this trip for you?

This is an adventure for people who love primates, want up-close encounters.

You should be comfortable with;

  • Driving an hour and half on rural roads connecting to the park which are sometimes rough, bumpy & dusty.
  • Walking/trekking on uneven terrain for 2 to 6 hours roundtrip.
  • Gorillas can sometimes be moving frequently, forest vegetation can at times obstruct visibility, and hence taking photos of these creatures can be very challenging!
  • some high-altitude hikes or more strenuous walks, but accessible to most healthy travellers.

Activity level is moderate demanding: Gorilla trekking can be a physically strenuous activity. Trekking takes place at altitudes between 1160 to 2607m (3806 to 8553ft) above sea level. moderate physical fitness is required. To ease your walking, it is possible to hire a local helper (porter) from the community at a small fee ($20) to carry your backpack along the path.

5 Days Gorilla Tracking Uganda – Flying safari

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe.

Arrival at Entebbe and transfer to your hotel in Entebbe City.

Day 2: Flying from Entebbe airport to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Early morning transfer to Entebbe airport internal flight to Kihihi/Kisoro.  You will check in an hour before flight departure. On arrival at Kihihi/Kisoro airstrip you will be picked up by our representative  and transfer one hour your lodge.

  • Journey time: internal flight in the morning – one hour and 20 minutes.
  • Accommodation at a Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
  • Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest National Park

Today morning our guide will pick you up from your lodge,  transfer to the park gate on time for pre-tracking orientation starting at 7:45am. Trekking through the thick jungle, traversing canopies of thick undergrowth can be tough, wet, strenuous but not impossible – the tracking can last from as little as 45 minutes to as much as 10 hours. The activity depends on location of gorillas the previous day. Visitors therefore are supposed to move along with packed/picnic lunch and water, and should be equipped with strong water-proof clothing and must be averagely healthy.

Coming face-to-face with a mountain gorilla is a truly humbling and emotional experience. This is a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with Uganda’s very own ‘Gorillas in the Mist’. After transfer back to your lodge.

Day 4: Community Village Tour or Second Gorilla Trekking (Optional)

Village walking tour. You will observe women making handicrafts from local materials and those creating the baskets, a chance to buy some. See how hard women are working in the fields tending to their crops. just a hoe and hard work all day in the fields.

It’s possible to visit to the Pygmy community, the original people of the forest – those who lost their homes when Bwindi forest was legally made Impenetrable Forest National Park. This Pygmy tour ends with traditional dance and gorilla dance.

Alternatively, today you have a chance to go on a second Gorilla tracking excursion. Please advise our safari expert if you prefer to go gorilla trekking for second time at the time of booking.

Day 5: Flying Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Kihihi/Kisoro) to Entebbe airport

Our guide will  transfer you to Kihihi/Kisoro airstrip  from where you will  fly back to Entebbe International Airport

Journey Time for flights to between Bwindi and Entebbe. 1 hour  transfer by road to Kihihi/ Kisoro & 1hour, 20 min internal flight.

Please let us know if you wish us to include one (or more) nights in Entebbe City or arrange at day room on last day.
