“The front finely expresses the heart of Uganda, showing a man dressed in a Karimojong headdress, and the map of Uganda which highlights the equator. Silverback mountain gorillas are finely illustrated on the back of the currency along with the Independence Monument on the far right. The gold tones and strong nature of the note have earned its place as a treasured keepsake for collectors”
The Bank of Uganda established in 1966, and has changed currencies at least 7 times. But of all notes ever designed, only the 50,000 note has made it to the list of the most beautiful notes in the world. When next you visit, you might have to add currency viewing to your itinerary!
Mountain Gorillas:
Gorilla tracking is a unique experience. Coming face to face with these gentle giants in their natural habitats is a “once in a lifetime” experience. Only two of all Uganda’s national parks offer this unique experience – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla national parks. Uganda’s most beautiful banknote has an image of the mountain gorillas illustrated on it.
A variety of beautiful Bird Species:
Uganda is a bird watcher’s paradise! Avid bird watchers will be amazed at the variety of unique and beautiful bird species in the country. You won’t want to miss the shoebill experience.
Source of the River Nile, Jinja:
In the midst of all the other attractions lies the source of the world’s longest river, the River Nile. A one day excursion, with a canoe ride along the Nile River….
Murchison Falls:
The Murchison Falls are found within the Murchison Falls National Park. The falls lie at the point where River Nile squeezes through a tiny space (7m gap), plunging 42m deep. This makes it one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world. What a stunning sight! The foaming, crashing white water rushing through narrow channels of stone and plunging down into a curving stretch of river below; silvery in the midday light. The payoff is a killer view back toward the waterfalls and down the Nile as far as your eyes can see.
